Careers

Our hiring process

We know the job search process can be daunting, so we try to make the hiring process here simple.

Here's what you can expect during our hiring process
For prospective employees

Apply

Search for open positions and apply online. Read the job description carefully to be sure you meet the minimum requirements. Look for a confirmation email after you apply.

Application review

We read applications on a first-come, first-served basis.

Application reviews may take up to two weeks.

Check application status

We get lots of applications every day and, unfortunately, we can't always follow up with everyone, so please log in to your job applicant account regularly to check your application's status.

Interview

We'll contact you by phone or email if you're selected to interview. During the interview, you'll meet with a hiring manager, potential coworkers or teammates, and someone from our talent acquisition team.

Interviews may take a few hours. Be prepared to answer questions about your background, your salary expectations, and why you want to work at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC).

For student interns

Apply

We typically accept summer internship applications in January or February. We'll update this page with the hiring process for interns before applications open.

Information for our Summer 2026 Internship Program will be available in the fall.

Application review

We review applications as they're submitted. After the application window closes, we'll let you know if you are selected for an interview.

Initial Interview

A member of our Early Career Talent Programs team or one of our Early Career Program alumni will contact you if you are selected for an initial interview. The interview will take 30 minutes and will be an opportunity for us to get to know you a little better and for you to ask us any questions you have.

Final interview

We’ll contact you by phone or email if you’re selected for a final video interview.

During the 45-minute interview, you'll meet with a hiring manager, potential coworkers or teammates, and a talent acquisition consultant. You'll have the opportunity engage with young professionals at Blue Cross NC to learn more about their experience and ask questions.

Tips for successful interviewing

Consider your past successes

You can prepare your answers in advance by thinking about past workplace scenarios you've handled effectively. You should be able to describe what happened, how you assessed the situation, and its outcome.

Follow the leader

Listen closely to the words the interviewer uses and the areas they focus on. If you're asked about organizational skills, for example, focus your responses on your attention to detail. Read the job description thoroughly to understand the specific skills you'll be asked about.

Talk about real life

Be able to share real-life situations that demonstrate your best skills and produced real results.

Wrap it up

Always ask questions when given the opportunity. This helps show your interest.
